Whew! Cousins! Fans sure did catch on to the direct shade Drake threw Childish Gambino ‘s way during opening night of his “It’s All a Blur” tour in Chicago!
In a long overdue response while performing his 2011 hit single ‘Headlines’, Drizzy had the stage light up with a quoted statement reading out, “The overrated and over-awarded hit song ‘This Is America’ was originally a Drake diss record.”
Back in April during an interview with GQ, Gambino revealed that his Grammy Award-winning hit song had actually started out as a Drake diss. “I had the idea three years before,” said Gambino. “I told [director] Hiro [Murai] the idea, and he’s like, ‘I really want to do that.’ The idea for the song started as a joke. To be completely honest, ‘This is America’ — that was all we had was that line.”
He added, “It started as a Drake diss, to be honest, as like a funny way of doing it. But then I was like, this sh*t sounds kind of hard though. So I was like, let me play with it.”
Social media users immediately tapped in surrounding the drama of the two rappers.
“That Childish Gambino vs. Drake debate is a good way to spot people you should never discuss music with,” wrote one user.
“Drake’s been living rent free in Childish Gambino’s head for 9 years. Is this the rap beef we didn’t know we needed?”
“this Drake and Childish Gambino “beef” is hilarious because people are calling Drake petty for responding to someone who was going to diss him. it’s crazy because none of this came out when he literally used Drake for his show..”
Cousins, what are your thoughts on this?
