Musician and entrepreneur Akon is gearing up to light the streets up with flavor with his upcoming festival in Atlanta!

According to Ebony, Akon is throwing a Jollof, Music, and Food Festival in partnership with Color of Change in efforts of highlighting, “ the power of West African culture.” 

Akon states, “our food and music have reached the mainstream, and our influence can be felt globally. My partners and I wanted to bring a piece of this to Atlanta.”

The festival will take place on Saturday, July 23, 2022, at Atlanta’s Piedmont Park.

Jacob York, the co-owner of the Jollof, Music, and Food Festival, adds, 

“I am happy to join my partners in bringing diverse culinary cuisines from the continent of Africa to Atlanta as well as highlighting Afro Beats, a genre of music that is dominating the charts.”

The proceeds will go toward Akon’s solar power company, Akon Lighting Africa. This company helps residents in Africa get electricity through this renewable energy feature. Founded in 2014, Akon Lighting Africa was executed by Akon, Samba Bathily, and Thione Niang.

Those attending should expect the Jollof, Music, and Food Festival to have Afrobeat and Caribbean DJs, a Jollof contest, which is judged by Akon and other skilled tastemakers, live music performances, food, art, dance, and more. Additionally, Color of Change will assemble a 3×3 basketball tournament where teams will go head-to- to win several prizes. Akon is also hosting an Afrobeat Bootcamp. It’ll allow aspiring musicians to show off their talents. 

The performances mentioned will feature Nana Kofi, Afro B, Rotimi, Focalistic, Nektunez, Salma Slims, and Akon’s artist Teemanay. 

Yahoo describes Jollof as “one of West Africa’s most loved dishes.” Moreover, it’s a food full of spices and other enticing flavors. Originated in West Africa, Jollof can be served with or without meat.
