The Academy has officially spoken!

In response to Will Smith and Chris Rock ‘s viral Oscars exchange, the King Richard actor has been banned from attending all Academy affiliated events including the Oscars for the next 10 years.

According to TMZ, The Academy’s Board of Governors met today to discuss a call of action. “The Board [of Governors] has decided, for a period of 10 years, from April 8, 2022, Mr. Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs, in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards,”’said the Academy President and CEO.

“During our telecast, we did not adequately address the situation in the room. For this we are sorry. This was an opportunity for us to set an example for our guests, viewers, and our Academy family around the world, and we fell short — unprepared for the unprecedented.”

He went on to thank Chris Rock in saying, “We want to express our deep gratitude to Mr. Rock for maintaining his composure under extraordinary circumstances.”

It has been indicated that the pressure was on The Academy after they were caught in a lie about saying they had asked Will to leave after the incident. Turns out no one ever attempted to have him leave.
