After coming under scrutiny for his latest Netflix special, Dave Chappelle said he is willing to meet with Netflix employees who organized a walkout. In protest of his controversial jokes during his special, “The Closer.”

According to the New York Post, the show released earlier this month, Chappelle declared “gender is a fact” and identified himself as a “TERF,” or “trans-exclusionary radical feminist,” causing an immediate backlash.

A representative for the comedian told TMZ, that the funnyman is willing to have an open dialogue with employees if they reach out to him for a heart-to-heart discussion.

Reportedly, no one from Netflix or the employee group in charge of the walkout contacted Chappelle or his team about setting up the meeting, according to the comedians camp.

“The Closer”, Chappelle’s sixth and final deal for Netflix, has been quickly criticized for being “transphobic.” Amid walkout, Netflix has dropped a statement surrounding the ongoing situation.

“We value our trans colleagues and allies, and understand the deep hurt that’s been caused,” a Netflix spokesperson said in a statement. “We respect the decision of any employee who chooses to walk out, and recognize we have much more work to do both within Netflix and in our content.”

Netflix Co-CEO, Ted Sarandos stood by the decision of keeping the show on the platform but agrees that they could have handled communication better with the staff. Telling the Wall Street Journal, Sarandos said, “What I should have led within those emails was humanity. I should have recognized the fact that a group of our employees was really hurting.”

Currently, “The Closer,” is trending as the top 10 shows on Netflix in the US despite the controversy.
