An Atlanta located IKEA is currently issuing apologies to numerous employees after forwarding a stereotypical Juneteenth menu featuring fried chicken and watermelon!
The controversial menu was sent to employees within an email last week with a memo that read,”to honor the perseverance of Black Americans and acknowledge the progress yet to be made” it was also going to roll out a special menu.”
According to TMZ employees were both shocked and outraged that the company would celebrate the official end of slavery by issuing employees and customers specific food items slaves were forwarded to eat on a regular basis.
Reports read that in response to the soul food labeled menu over 20 employees called out of work.
“You cannot say serving watermelon on Juneteenth is a soul food menu when you don’t even know the history, they used to feed slaves watermelon during the slave time,” says an anonymous employee.
