Media correspondent and host Nina Parker is taking a stand in the fashion industry by assuring everyone has the ability to look and feel their very best at all times!
After personally experiencing fashion looks and designs that didn’t speak to plus size women, Nina decided to venture out and create a line of her own.
“With plus sizes, it’s like they want us to hide,” says Nina. “They’re matronly, something my aunties might wear. I’m like, ‘I don’t understand why big has to mean conservative.'”
She goes on to speak of how the average plus size woman’s fashion line consists of basic colors, designs and how it’s unfair.
“My stylist and I were trying to find stuff off of the rack and it just wasn’t comparable to my counterparts,” Nina explains. “It felt really unfair, like, ‘Yes, I am bigger than them, but does that mean I don’t matter as much because my waist is bigger?'”
According to Yahoo Entertainment , Nina designed her own look for last year’s Oscars and this years Golden Globes. Deciding she wasn’t going to allow the fashion industry to dictate how she looks or felt about herself Nina decided to create her own lane.
“I was tired of trying to make a square fit into a circle. So, I was like, ‘Let me create my own circle.'”
Reports read that Nina’s The Nina Parker Collection line is set for release on May 14th 2021 online and in stores at Macys. The line will consist of 17 pieces from sizes 16W to 24W between the price points of $39 and $129. Decked out with tank tops, form fitting dresses, and denim along with fun fabrics and prints.
Nina is making history as the first Black woman took ever launch a plus size clothing line at Macys.
