The highly anticipated trial of former Minnesota officer Derek Chauvin for the gruesome and unethical murder of George Floyd is officially underway and making headlines already as his legal team argues that pre existing drug overdose was the cause of Floyd’s death!
As we previously reported Chauvin is currently facing charges for third-degree murder, second-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter in Floyd’s May 25 death.
According to the NY Post opening arguments took place Monday morning around 10AM at the Hennepin County Courthouse.
Reports that lead prosecutor Minnesota Assistant Attorney General Matthew is expected to focus on the viral video of George’s death.
However Defense Attorney Eric Nelson is expected to argue that Derek did not cause George’s death by pressing his knee on his neck.
It has been indicated that within the examiner’s report that fentanyl and methamphetamine was discovered in George’s system at the time of his death and ruled it as a homicide.
George’s family has argued other wise as their Attorney Ben Crump has stated, “What killed George Floyd was an overdose of excessive force.”
As residents and social media gear up for what is yet to come, it has been indicated that The murder trial is expected to last about four weeks.
