Legendary Music Executive Andre Harrell Passes Away At 59!

It is with an extremely heavy heart that we inform you of the recent and unexpected passing of music executive giant #AndreHarrell!

Billboard reports that news of Harrell’s death was announced early Saturday morning around 12AM by DJ #DNice on Instagram live.

As of right now there has been no indication of the direct cause behind his death.

Born within the Bronx, New York area Harrell began his career within the 1980’s as one half of the Hip Hop group Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde alongside Alonzo Brown. He was then hired by Def Jam and soon became Vice President and General Manager of the label.

Harrell later left to establish his own label label named “ Uptown Records”, that backed some of the biggest 80s and 90s artist in the industry such as: Heavy D & The Boyz, Al B. Sure! the legendary Teddy Riley, Mary J Blidge, Jodeci Boyz II Men and his protégée Sean Diddy Combs.

Diddy worked as an A&R at Uptown records and was fired three years in but not before he discovered the Brooklyn lyricist known as Christopher Wallace also known as the Notorious BIG. Shortly after that Combs created his own record label of Bad Boy and signed Biggie.

Harell ventured on within his success and expanded the Uptown record brand at MCA productions and created multiple projects within film and television.

Harell and Diddy remained friends and together worked on numerous projects.

Harell is remembered for his decades worth of contributions to the music industry and identifies as one of the most successful original Hip Hop and R&B pioneers the world has ever seen. He not only jump started the careers of many but also changed millions of people’s life with his influence.

Sleep in peace Andre Harell, you will be greatly missed but your work shall live on forever!
