The Juneteenth turn-ups and celebrations may hit a little different this year after President Biden officially signed a new bill passing the historic day into law.

Though Juneteenth will now be recognized nationally as a federal holiday we’ve learned that Georgia Governor Brian Kemp has officially blocked state employees from receiving pay for the designated date.

According to AJC News , despite Governor Kemp signing the proclamation into order recognizing Juneteenth as a holiday, it specifically won’t be a paid holiday for state employees.

A spokesperson for Governor Kemp has indicated that Georgia state law has a limit on state office closures to only 12 public and legal holidays.

Stating that not a day more or less will be allowed and that the state already has 12 in place.

Reports read that the ACLU of Georgia has requested that the state add Juneteenth to the paid holiday calendar and part ways with Columbus Day.

Though the bill has recently been signed, numerous establishments have been pushed to prepare to allow their employees the day off .
