Congratulations are in order; the original bad girl #Rihana has officially been named next in line to receive the NAACP President’s award!
According to Yahoo Entertainment, the NAACP organization made the official announcement Tuesday afternoon. Sources have confirmed that NAACP President and CEO Derrick Johnson will present the multi facet icon during the ceremony.
Past recipients of the prestigious award consist of legendary figures such as Jessie Jackson, Muhammad Ali, Jay Z, Lauryn Hill and more.
The Presidents Award is presented to iconic figures who exceed overall achievement and public services upon a global scale.
“Rihanna has not only enjoyed a groundbreaking career as an artist and musician, but has also distinguished herself as a stellar public servant,” Johnson said. “From her business achievements through Fenty, to her tremendous record as an activist and philanthropist, Rihanna epitomizes the type of character, grace, and devotion to justice that we seek to highlight in our President’s Award,” states Johnson.
The 51st NAACP Image Awards is set to take place Saturday Feb. 22nd ,2020 at 8PM in Pasadena, California. Live footage will appear on the broadcasting network of BET.
