Barbie just leveled up its Inspiring Women series, and this one hits different!
The iconic doll brand of Matel is celebrating Dr. Opal Lee, the 99-year-old civil rights activist famously known as the “Grandmother of Juneteenth.”
Dr Lee’s legacy decades of advocacy, marches, and pushing for recognition will now be immortalized in a collectible doll that captures her legendary spirit and fight for freedom.
Dr Opal Lee helped make Juneteenth a federal holiday in 2021, a milestone decades in the making.
Barbie’s tribute doesn’t just stop at a likeness, the doll rocks her signature “Walk for Freedom” outfit, complete with a custom T-shirt, white pants, and sneakers. It’s a statement piece, honoring a life spent marching for justice and teaching generations the meaning of liberation.
Social media flooded Barbie’s instsgramn comment section following news of the upcoming collab.
“Thank you barbie for seeing that representation matters and makes the world a better place!”
