A hefty new lawsuit has pulled Jada Pinkett Smith back into headlines, this time over an alleged threat directed at Will Smith’s longtime friend and former assistant, Bilaal Salaam, also known as Brother Bilaal!
Birthday Get Together Turns Explosive 🎉
According to court documents obtained by People, tensions reportedly began during a 2021 celebration of Will Smith’s birthday. Bilaal claims Jada confronted him in the lobby of the Regency Calabasas Commons on September 25, 2021. He says she stopped him in his tracks — surrounded by “approximately seven members of her entourage” — to confront him about sharing private information.
The complaint alleges that Jada made it crystal clear that discussing their household matters was off-limits. Bilaal claims Jada became verbally aggressive, warning him that if he continued sharing her personal business, he would “end up missing or catch a bullet.” The lawsuit also states that Jada allegedly demanded he sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) — “or else.”
Refusing to Cover Up the Oscars Incident 🎭
Six months later, in late March 2022, Bilaal claims he refused a request from a mutual friend to assist with “crisis management” following the Academy Awards. During the ceremony, Smith famously slapped fellow actor and comedian Chris Rock after he made a joke about Pinkett Smith’s shaved head — a decision she has openly shared was part of her alopecia journey.
“Plaintiff refused to perform tasks he believed were illegal, unethical, or morally compromising, stating his conscience would not allow him to be involved in any cover-up or deceptive PR campaign,” Bilaal’s filing alleges.
Alleged Retaliatory Campaign ⚡
Bilaal claims that after refusing, he began receiving threats from Will and Jada’s circle and was targeted in a “retaliatory campaign” against him. The complaint states the alleged harassment intensified when it was discovered he was writing a “whistleblower memoir” about his time with the Smiths.
He further alleges the smear campaign escalated after an interview he did “went viral,” placing him in the crosshairs of the couple’s inner circle. According to the lawsuit, the alleged threats, intimidation, and attempts to damage his reputation form the basis for the $3 million lawsuit.
No Public Response Yet 📢
Representatives for Jada and Will Smith have not publicly commented on the complaint. The lawsuit adds another chapter to a long-running public fascination with the couple’s private life, which has consistently made headlines for viral moments, personal revelations, and Hollywood drama.
As the case unfolds, all eyes are expected to remain on how this high-profile legal battle will affect the Smiths’ public image and Bilaal’s claims of intimidation and retaliation.
