🎉 A Day of Culture Turns to Tragedy
Noir Nation, what was meant to be a vibrant celebration of Caribbean pride, food, music, and unity ended with blood on the streets of Brooklyn Monday night!
The annual West Indian Day Parade, a staple on Eastern Parkway that draws thousands from around the world, was once again scarred by violence.
🚨 Multiple Victims, Separate Incidents
According to the NYPD, six people were shot and one man was slashed in separate incidents between 5:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. in Crown Heights as festivities wrapped up. Victims ranged in age from a 14-year-old boy to a 53-year-old man, with injuries reported from grazed wounds to life-threatening shots. One man suffered a brutal slash to the face, adding to the night’s toll of chaos.
👮🏾♂️ Police Presence Couldn’t Stop the Violence
This year marked the NYPD’s largest-ever deployment for the event, with thousands of officers on the ground, barricades lining Eastern Parkway, and drones monitoring from above.
Yet the violence still erupted. The most serious attack left a 53-year-old man shot in both the neck and leg near Nostrand Avenue, while a woman nearby was hit in the ankle. Both were rushed to Kings County Hospital.
💔 A Community Demands Answers
Elsewhere, two men were shot in the shoulder, and a teenage boy was struck in both the hand and back. Authorities confirmed all victims are expected to survive, but the community is left shaken. Many are now questioning how, despite heavy security, the tradition of celebrating Caribbean pride continues to be overshadowed by tragedy.
