Doechii received a standing ovation at the 2024 Grammys as she accepted her win for ‘Best Rap Album’
Within her heartwarming and emotional speech Doechii spoke on battling sobriety and putting her faith in God in order to make her dreams come true.
“I put my heart and my soul into this mixtape. I bared my life,” Doechii expressed with tears in her eyes. “I went through so much. I dedicated myself to sobriety, and God told me that I would be rewarded and that he would show me just how good it can get. And I have to thank God.”
“I need to thank my beautiful mother for coaching me.”
Doechii went on to acknowledge her devoted fan-base and her hometown of Tampa, Florida.
“There are so many people out there who probably don’t know who I am. I call myself the ‘swamp princess’ because I’m from Tampa, Florida.”
The 26 year old wrapped up with a special and inspiring message for Black girls and Black women by letting them know that ANYTHING is possible and you are who you’re suppose to be.
“I know that there is some Black girl out there, so many Black women out there that are watching me right now and I want to tell you, ‘You can do it. Anything is possible,’” she said. “Don’t allow anybody to project any stereotypes on you that tell you that you can’t be here, that you’re too dark or that you’re not smart enough, or that you’re too dramatic or you’re too loud. You are exactly who you need to be, to be right where you are, and I am a testimony.”
Doechii is now the third female rapper in Grammy history to ever win in the category of Best Rap Album. Cardi B won in 2019 with her debut album, ‘Invasion of Privacy’ and Lauryn Hill won in 1997 for her contribution to The Fugees’ project ‘The Score’
