The creative genius that is Yara Shahidi took center stage for the twentieth anniversary of Advertisement Week in New York City as she dished on the importance of family, her love for audio, and the ways she is using her influence to provide access for the next generation!
While diving into the highly anticipated debut of her new podcast, ‘The Optimist Project’, Yara spoke on how the conversations she has with her mother and business partner Keri Shahidi helped motivate her to enter the podcasting space.
“I feel like curiosity has been the anchoring value for everything that I touch but the podcast unabashedly blossomed from curiosity.”
Yara added, “The podcast came from—we have these long esoteric conversations about the state of the world, how we keep pushing, how we arm ourselves with things large and small to pour into ourselves.”
The 24-year-old also acknowledged the importance of creating a space where people can gain access to valuable conversations and resources that they may not often be able to. “We find ourselves frequently in these really exclusive rooms.”
“And you know we’re lucky to be there but so many times when we think of our community members that have inspired us and we know so many people that would benefit from hearing those conversations that only a handful of people are privy to.”
According to Cosmopolitan, The Optimist Project, will be released through SiriusXM’s Listen Next initiative later this year.
Sometimes, we just get so happy about how curious we are, we want to share it with everybody,” said Keri in a previous interview.
“Because we’ve always had these intergenerational relationships, whether it’s between Yara and her grandparents or myself and some other people, that has also always been a bridge in all of our relationships where the teaching is just fluid going both ways. We thought, what a perfect opportunity to see if anybody else is as curious as we are.
