Tyrese received his flowers today as attendees of Charlamagne Tha God fourth annual Mental Wealth Expo embraced him for being vocal, transparent, and vulnerable in his journey of fatherhood!
During the ‘Cry Like A Man’ fireside chat, hosted by Dr. Alfiee Breland-Noble, author Jason Wilson reflected on Tyrese’s emotional breakdown on social media in 2017 regarding a court battle with his ex-wife.
If you recall the singer went viral after erupting in tears online as he pleaded to see his daughter. “…don’t take my baby … I’m not doing anything illegal.”
Tyrese shared at the time that he had seen his 10-year-old daughter Shayla 60 days ago while explaining that he’s lost a lot of money due to exceeding legal fees. “Don’t take my baby. This is all I got. Don’t take my baby, okay?” said Tyrese. “I’ve been away from my baby for two months. I just want my baby and no one’s listening cause no one’s in the courtroom.”
“I’m at $13,000 a month. What more do you want from me?”
“I don’t hate you Norma. I don’t know why you hate me, but I don’t hate you. But you just can’t wake up on September 11th and accuse me of something I didn’t do,” said Tyrese with tears in his eyes.
Jason addressed the viral video clip and apologized for not taking a public stance with Tyrese in understanding the pain of a father seeking to be with his child. He explained how a Black man’s emotions are ignored in society as they’re raised to believe that emotions are a sign of weakness instead of resilience.
