Eve is reflecting on her viral exchange with Nicki Minaj following the release of her autobiography ‘Who’s That Girl? : A Memoir’ and how a once uncomfortable situation turned positive!
In an interview with Capital XTRA, Eve said that her now-viral exchange with Nicki was beautiful for fellow women to witness. “I woke up that morning like, ‘whoa!’ My homeboy sent it to me, and was like, ‘Yo, have you seen this?’ I was like, ‘Nah, I didn’t.’ But I’ll tell you that was another confirmation for me, writing this book.”
“Because that was a chapter in the book – I talk about Nicki – “ Eve continued. “But I talk about her when we were doing Barbershop. I was like, ‘Do I put this in the book? Do I talk about how me being insecure about this other woman coming on set?’ And you know what? That’s life.”
“Everybody has it in some type of way. That’s life. And it was my confirmation where I was like, ‘Wow, you never know what other people are thinking.’ Do you know what I’m saying? And it was beautiful, and I really, really appreciated it so much. So much. Yeah, and we wrote her back because she’s cute!”
As we previously reported, a part of her never-told-before stories and experiences within the entertainment industry, Eve bared her soul to readers as she shared moments of fear and uncertainty in both her personal and professional life. Within the series of recollected stories, Eve reflected on her experience while shooting ‘Barbershop: The Next Cut’ as members of the original cast welcomed Nicki.y
In efforts to avoid projecting ‘her own insecurities onto other women,” Eve revealed that she sought professional help. “I had to physically and mentally prepare myself… Nicki and I were actually fine on set,” she wrote. Outside of her initial feelings, Eve shared with readers how she watched Nicki keep a tight knit schedule balancing multiple responsibilities at once. Eve explained that she began to sympathize with Nicki instead of envying her.
As the excerpt from Eve’s memoir went viral across social media, Nicki chimed in to pen a heartwarming message to the First Lady of Ruff Rydaz while thanking her for her transparency. “The various things you’ve shared recently, are groundbreaking (in my opinion) for so many reasons.”
“The level of grace; the level of emotional and spiritual maturity it takes to be this vulnerable and transparent is a sign of TRUE peace, fulfillment, & mastery of self.” wrote Nicki.
“Thank you for trying to not do to me what was done to you. Women feel so much pressure to compete & it’s a shame b/c we usually have so much in common & could rlly benefit from one another just as human beings. We all share so many of the same experiences as artists, wives, moms, ups & downs, anxiety, etc.”
In response, Eve thanked Nicki while letting her know that she respects her as a woman, artist, and mother.
“Thank you so much for this. I really appreciate it. I have nothing but respect and am so proud to have seen you grow from strength to strength over the years as an artist, mom and always stayed true to yourself, lord knows it’s not easy for us y’all.”
