Dozens of Emmett Till protesters gathered at a senior living facility searching for Carolyn Bryant Donham, demanding her arrest warrant be served!

On Wednesday, Emmett Till’s activists were not playing with Carolyn Bryant Donham after a 67-year-old arrest warrant was found in a Mississippi court basement last month but was never served. Till’s family and supporters have been pushing for this warrant to be fulfilled since it was discovered.

A dozen protesters arrived at a senior living facility in Raleigh, NC searching for Donham in hopes that authorities would extradite her to Mississippi to be arrested.

According to AP News, the unserved warrant against Donham was publicized then, but a local Mississippi sheriff told reporters he did not want to “bother” Carolyn since she had two young children to raise.

Carolyn accused then 14-year-old Emmett Till of whistling at her while she worked at her family’s grocery store in 1955. Donham shared the alleged encounter with her husband which caused the horrific murder. Two nights later, Donham’s husband, Roy Bryant, and his half-brother John W. Milam kidnapped Till, beat him up, shot him, and threw his body in the Tallahatchie River. The men were arrested and later acquitted in the case.

“You cannot ignore this. That is the reason why the warrant needs to be served, and it will help create change,” Till’s cousin Priscilla Sterling told WRAL. “If this is what’s needed to do for us to change our mindset, our behaviors and attitudes in the society, then this will do it. This will do it. Execute the warrant.”

Demonstrators will continue the search for Donham, according to WRAL.
