Janet Jackson has been making headlines lately following comments made regarding the ongoing controversy surrounding Vice President Kamala Harris Race. Despite receiving immediate backlash for her previous comments, a member of Janet’s team has confirmed that an unauthorized apology was issued on her behalf!
The widespread controversy ignited last month when the singer was asked about the possibility of the first Black woman President taking office. “She’s not Black,” said Janet in an interview with The Guardian back in September. “That’s what I heard. That she’s Indian. Her father’s white. That’s what I was told. I mean, I haven’t watched the news in a few days. I was told that they discovered her father was white.”
Janet’s comments began to trend online as social media users chimed in accusing her of mirroring former President Donald Trump’s rhetoric as he previously suggested Kamala recently turned Black for votes and that she previously identified solely as Indian.
“I didn’t know she was Black until a number of years ago when she happened to turn Black and now she wants to be known as Black,” said Trump at the annual convention of the National Association of Black Journalists in Chicago back in August. “I don’t know, is she Indian or is she Black?”
Apparently a spokesperson for Janet, Mo Elmasari told Buzzfeed that she had apologized and that her comments were based on misinformation. “She deeply respects Vice President Kamala Harris and her accomplishments as a Black and Indian woman,” Elmasri added.“Janet apologizes for any confusion caused and acknowledges the importance of accurate representation in public discourse. We appreciate the opportunity to address this and will remain committed to promoting unity.”
However, a member of Janet’s team immediately shut down the issued apology confirming that the forwarded statement was made without her knowledge or consent.
