Cousins! A woman is currently recovering from a tragic ordeal in The Bronx after a man brutally attacked and sexually assaulted her after asking her for directions!

According to PIX 11 News, the horrifying incident occurred early Monday morning, August 5th around 1 AM, near Bergen Avenue and East 149th Street in Mott Haven. The 35-year-old woman was approached by Papa Diop as he asked her for directions in the area.

It has been stated that Diop held the victim down on a park bench as he sexually assaulted her moments after their encounter. He is said to have fled the scene immediately after attacking her as surveillance footage captured him running in the opposite direction, towards Brook Avenue.

Thankfully, the 38-year-old was captured less than a week later as the NYPD recognized his face from a wanted poster. He was taken into custody and charged with first-degree rape.

Sources state that Diop pleaded not guilty during his arraignment on Sunday, and that his attorney has not yet provided a comment.

Diop is currently being held at Riker’a Island on a $250,000 bail.

The victim was taken to NYC Health and Hospitals/Lincoln where’s she been listed as in stable condition, reports the New York Post.

Diop has been identified as an illegal immigrant who entered the United States in 2023 after fleeing from Senegal.

NYPD’s chief of patrol John Chell has blamed the city’s sanctuary laws for assisting in the rise of crime.

Local authorities have confirmed that The NYPD’s Bronx Special Victims Squad is investigating the incident.
