Cousins! Billboard and Vibe magazine have officially released their “50 Greatest Rappers of all Time” list and it’s definitely the topic of discussion throughout social media.
The list can come off a little controversial as rapper’s peers as well as their fanbase begin to debate over who deserves further recognition in comparison to other artists being overlooked verses overrated. However in all fairness with only 50 designated slots and a wide range of immensely talented emcees creating a list is far more complicated than meets the eye.
In a newly launched partnership amongst Vibe and Billboard Magazine the two platforms have combined rappers from various eras as well as decades to create the list of greatest 50 rappers of all time.
According to Hot New Hip Hop the first installment of the list was released on Wednesday January 11th, only featuring selected artists from #50 through 41.
Rick Ross landed the 50th spot, with Queens, New York native Rev Run and Melle Mel earning the 49th and 48th spot. MC Lyte was named #47, with Jadakiss interestingly being named #46 and #45th spot going to Ice-T. Artist such as Queen Latifah, Bun B and Redman follow, as they take the 44th-42nd spots in order. E-40 is the last rapper to make the first instalment of the list, coming in at #41.
The top ten list of artists range from Nicki Minaj all the way to Brooklyn, New York native Jay-Z
Cousins, be sure to check out the full list and let us know in the comments who you think should’ve been ranked higher, which artist are missing or shouldn’t be on the list at all.
