Cousins! The city of Minneapolis has announced their plans to purchase the speedway gas station intersection where George Floyd was tragically murdered!
According to AP News, the City Council shares that they plan to purchase the gas station known as George Floyd Square and turn it into a racial justice healing center and permanent memorial for George.
Nearly three years ago in May 2020 ex police officer Derick Chauvin inhumanely dug his knee into George’s neck for a total of 9 and a half minutes until his body ultimately went limb. His death instantly ignited social justice marches around the world in response to the exceedingly growing issue of police brutality.
The site has remained a memorial area for George. The space is currently occupied with a life sized mural, flowed and poster boards.

The Star Tribune reports that the projected cost will be roughly around $200,000 deriving from taxpayer funding. However that is only if the city clears the $420,000 donation from California real estate investment group Reality Income Corp, who owns the actual gas station space.

Following the recently issued announcement, a series of activist have issued concerns of if the City’s plans will negatively effect George’s memorial.
The City Council declares that the acquisition will be a community based project that may take years to complete.
