A 26 year old employee of the Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans endured a tragic death recently while unloading a series of baggage from a Frontier Airlines flight!
According to USA Today news, the incident occurred Tuesday August 30th around 10:20 PM as Jermani Thompson was unloading baggage. She worked as ground support for the the company GAT.
In a direct statement from the company’s CEO Mike Hough reveals that Jermani’s hair had gotten entangled in the machinery of the belt loader. “We are heartbroken and are supporting her family and her friends as best as we are able.”
Jermani is said to have been rushed to Ochsner Medical Center-Kenner where she was sadly pronounced dead. An autopsy to determine the official cause of the incident hasn’t been scheduled as of yet.
Reports read that Frontier Airlines had canceled a single flight Wednesday morning after the accident, however all other flights proceeded on schedule.
“We extend our deepest condolences following the tragic death of a team member of our ground handling business partner at Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans,” says Jennifer de la Cruz said in a forwarded statement. “Our thoughts are with her family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
In an interview with nola.com, Jermani’s mother Angela Dorsey stated, “She was my baby girl. Everybody loved her, she loved basketball. I’m just lost for words. I can’t even think.
“She was the sweetest person. She was a hard worker who always went after her goals,” said, Nichole Branch, Jermani’s sister-in-law.
“She was the kind of kid who was always smiling, a great teammate. She wasn’t the biggest or the tallest. But whenever she went on the floor, she gave me everything she had. There was no quit in her, no matter what the score was.” said Jermani’s former coach Daniel Harrison.
