The popular ride share service brand of Uber is currently facing lawsuits by countless women across the nation following claims of alleged sexual assualt incidents reported in recent months at the hands of their drivers!
These cases have been declared extremely prominent due to fact that the numbers of claims are increasing as well as Uber’s competitor, Lyft. There are currently five Jane Does, along with 550 clients who have come forward, and 150 active investigations.
CNN Business reports that in San Francisco County Superior Court there was a detailed lawsuit in place from August 2021 to February 2022 in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Illinois, and California. One woman alleged that she was “digitally penetrated” by a driver who attempted to rape her, another woman alleges a man fondled her body parts who then raped her, and another woman alleges that her driver began to masturbate in the driver’s seat.
Unfortunately, there are additional cases heightened in multitude with female riders being assaulted by their Uber drivers.
Uber has issued a statement recently in saying, that their company does not comment on pending litigation, but says that they are taking “every single report seriously”
“There is nothing more important than safety, which is why Uber has built new safety features, established survivor-centric policies, and been more transparent about serious incidents,” a spokesperson said in the statement.
Although Uber is a convenient transportation company that helps riders get to their destinations, it poses a very high safety risk. One, the driver is a stranger to riders and two, we don’t know their criminal backgrounds. Riders expect to get to their destination safely, but this is not the case. Their mission statement is world class transportation with a level of safety.
