Things are not looking well for Nicki Minaj‘s husband as prosecutors want him to serve jail time!
The Rapstar’s husband, Kenneth Petty, could serve up to 15 months in prison after failing to register as a sex offender in California.
According to Complex, prosecutors do not want Petty to serve his sentence under home confinement. Prosecutors argue the couple’s Calabasas mansion is not a formidable punishment for him.
Petty was convicted of first-degree attempted rape in New York in 1995 and was a registered sex offender. After relocating to California with Minaj in July 2019, he was arrested during a traffic stop in November 2019 after authorities noticed Petty failed to register as a sex offender in California, which is required by the law. Again, Petty was arrested for failing to register in March 2020 and pleaded guilty in September 2021.
In the court filing, prosecutors wrote, “The timing of the defendant’s lapse in registration is concerning, given that it occurred when the defendant began dating his wife, quit his job, moved to Los Angeles, and adopted an affluent lifestyle.”

“Defendant has been completing sex offender registration documents for nearly 20 years,” the filing stated. “Over the course of two decades, he was repeatedly warned that if he moved to another state, it was his responsibility to follow any local, city, state, federal, or international laws regarding registration.”
Now prosecutors want Petty to serve “15 months of prison time and five years supervised release as well as $55,000 in retribution.” Petty’s sentencing is scheduled for July 6.
