300 Entertainment’s Kevin Liles and Atlantic Records’ COO Julie Greenwald are launching a petition opposed to using rap lyrics as evidence in court due to the recent arrest of Atlanta and Young Stoner Life rappers  Young Thug, Gunna and their associates who are currently facing RICO charges!

The petition mentions how prosecutors have aimed to use hip-hop lyrics in court to criminalize Black artists, completely disregarding their first amendment rights. Prosecutors are currently using his scheme to target the YSL rappers.

According to Atlanta Black Star, Liles and Greenwald, in a joint statement, declared that “In courtrooms across America, Black creativity and artistry is being criminalized. With increasing and alarming frequency, prosecutors are attempting to use rap lyrics as confessions, just like they’re doing in this case.”

Last month, the New York Senate passed a bill entitled the “Rap Music on Trial,” which limits utilizing rap lyrics in trial, and has received support from Senators. Jamaal Bailey and Brad Hoylman, and several hip-hop artists including Jay-Z, Meek Mill, Fat Joe, and Killer Mike.

Earlier this month, Liles was very emotional as he testified in court on behalf of Young Thug and his connection with the rapper. With tears in his eyes, he expressed his determination to beat this case, “I’m willing to back him personally and professionally. … This whole thing that people are talking about, it’s not him. The Jeffery I know will give me the clothes off his back. The Jeffery I know, I can give him my kids, and he’ll give me his kid.”
