Following his recent release from jail, Jussie Smollett‘s legal team has revealed that he only drank ice water for the six long days he was behind bars!

Within a recently held news conference Jussie’s attorney Nenye Uche said , “Ice water, that’s been his food and liquid. I can only imagine if I was in jail for something I didn’t do, I wouldn’t be eating.”

According to reports from Fox News, it was the former Empire star choice to not eat.

As we previously reported the 39 year old actor was released Wednesday on a bail bond of $150,000 while he appeals his conviction. An Illinois court ruled to release Jussie from jail less than a week after his five month sentencing.

“He pushed his hands on the glass, and he was, his eyes got teary. I’ve never seen that because he’s been really strong in there,” Uche said when explaining how Jussie reacted to the news that he was being released. “He nearly lost hope in our constitutional system. He was shocked. I think he had nearly given up.”
