An alleged domestic dispute escalated with a father from South Carolina, emptying bullets into his adult daughter and his wife, then taking his own life in an apparent murder-suicide.
NY Daily News reports that the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office stated, they believe the fatal incident took place early Sunday. The wife, Laquanda took bullets to her right arm and torso at the hands of her husband Arthur Brannon III.
The 43 year old father then locked himself and his eldest daughter, 23-year-old MiAysha who was a junior Veterinary Technician student at Fort Valley State University, inside their Boiling Springs home.
Laquanda was found outside the family’s home by deputies, still alive. They rushed her to a local hospital. Mrs. Brannon is fortunately expected to survive her injuries.
More help descended upon the property in the form of SWAT and negotiators from the sheriffs’ office. They arrived on scene to assist Brannon, in hopes of talking him down. They could not get any response however. Upon entering the home they found father and his daughter were both deceased.
Fort Valley State University upon learning of MiAysha death, issued a statement Wednesday.
The university president himself, Paul Jones, also issued a statement which said “She was a cherished member of our Wildcat family. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends during this very sad time.”
Timothy Hatchett, the university’s Vice President of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management wrote, “Our campus community mourns her tragic loss. We send our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, classmates, professors and all those who knew and loved her.”
Hatchet informed the grieving students as well that counseling will be made available to them. Jones ensured their school’s flags will be flown at half-staff in MiAysha’s memory.
