It seems like a Noth Carolina appeals court ruled in favor of a man convicted of murdering Micheal Jordan’s father. This could lead to a possible retrial.
According to Baller Alert, Daniel Green was sentenced to life in prison with Larry Demery for the 1993 murder of James Jordan. The six-time championship basketball player, father, was killed while he slept in his car.
Green admitted to helping Demery dump Jordan’s body. He has maintained saying he did not partake in the murder. A judge ruled against Green that denied him to present new evidence in court in 2020. The North Carolina Court of Appeals overturned that decision, and now the judge has to reevaluate.
The appeals court wants the judge to look over the evidence presented by Green’s attorneys. No, this does not guarantee he will get another trial, but it can open the door for the possibility.
Attorney Christine Mumma says, ”I was pretty emotional for Daniel because it’s been so long since he was arrested, that nothing positive has happened for him and for his family.”
Mumma claims ineffective counsel, errors made by Green’s attorney’s that she thinks warrant further review. Also, there is a witness who says she saw Green at a party, during the time the murder was commited.
Green’s other correspondent Demery, took a plea deal and testified against Green at their trial. Demery will be eligible for parole in 2024.
