The hardest part about being a parent is accepting that moment in time when your child no longer needs you!
Within his newly released memoir Will, Will Smith gets really personal with the struggles he went through with his family growing up, the journey of parenthood, and even recalling the moment his heart was shattered as a father.
In a exclusive interview with People, Smith dished on the time Jaden was facing media scrutiny after their debut, in the 2013 film “After Earth” that didn’t perform well at the box office.
Will explains that Jaden wasn’t able to exactly handle the critics forwarded comments and after trying to ignore it all, he still felt defeated.
“After Earth’ was an abysmal box office and critical failure and what was worse was that Jaden took the hit. Fans and the press were vicious; they said and printed things about Jaden that I refuse to repeat. Jaden had faithfully done everything that I’d instructed him to do, and I had coached him into the worst public mauling he’d ever experienced.”
Will then expressed that he personally knew Jaden felt betrayed, misled, and he lost trust in his leadership. Jaden asked to be emancipated but later decided against it. “At fifteen years old, when Jaden asked about being an emancipated minor, my heart shattered. He ultimately decided against it, but it sucks to feel like you’ve hurt your kids.
The transparency the Smith family has been giving to the world is amazing to see and shows the world that celebrities are human as well.
