Cousins!
As Ye classic interview on Drink Champs with Norega and DJ EFN continues to circulate throughout the internet more and more of his personal prospective, ideologies and background stories begin to ruffle the feathers of many!
One of the many gems the artist formally known as Kanye West dropped during the fan favorite interview is the truth behind his nick name of Yeezy, which also serves as the name of his billion dollar fashion brand.
“People who took a liking to me in volatile situations would always give me a nickname so it seemed like I was cool like them. My boy Mali who used to sell guns, he called me K-Rock when I would be on 79th and stuff like that,” revealed Ye.
He says that the Philly native gave him the nick name early in his career. “Yeezy was Beanie’s name for me when I was in Baseline [Studios]. Like on some, ‘Oh, that’s Yeezy,’ make him one of us. He let me wear his State Property chain. He really just embraced me.” Ye states that he wants to give him $50 million dollars for that.
However things got a little sticky since the interview aired as Beans states it didn’t quite go like that. Over the weekend he made an appearance in his hometown of Philadelphia and revealed that he had a conversation with Ye in which he was promised $50 million plus 5% stake of the Yeezy brand, reports Hiphop DX.
“I got a phone call from the muthafucka the other day. He said Sig gon’ get $50 million and a five percent stock in Yeezy,” Beans said in a video shared online. “And I don’t know if n-ggas know, Yeezy’s did $1.7 billion last year.”
Here’s the thing Beans is on point and absolutely right, as Forbes, confirms Kanye’s Yeezy brand generateD $1.7 billion in sales in 2020, netting Ye $191 million in royalties.
Both Ye and Beanie were knowingly signed to Jay-Z‘s Roc-A-Fella Records brand in the early 2000s era.
