The Chairman for Nike’s Jordan brand, Larry Miller, dropped his own scalding tea on us that has been steeping for over 50 years as he reveals not only was he once a gangbanger but also killed a man!
He came from a troubled past, admitting to the media that by 16 years of age, he was a straight up gangbanger. Rules of the streets replaced logic and his upbringing. So when one of his rival gangs murdered his friend “he downed a bottle of wine, grabbed his gun and went on the hunt for a rival gang member,” reported TMZ . He saw his target, 18 year old Edward White, and not knowing whether he was involved in his friend’s killing or not, shot him dead, right in the chest.
Miller struggles most with the fact that there was no rhyme or reason. No justification for his actions. He did serve time until he turned 30 years of age.
During his time, he earned an accounting degree and was offered a position. Once they learned about his past, however, they rescinded their offer. That is when he chose to keep his past a secret.
He became a huge success in the business world but grappled internally, with the reality of his actions when he was a youth. Though it may sound cliche, the truth will set you free. Miller was in need of making peace with himself and yearned to stand in his truth. He began sharing his story very selectively and to his surprise, found a great deal of support in his circle.
To know, he had regrettably made the biggest mistake of his life and still found understanding from his peers inspired him to share his story. A story of redemption that could provide some inspiration and hope to youth, and leave a positive impact. He has written about his ordeal in his upcoming book titled ‘JUMP’ to be released January 18, 2022.
