Cousins!

The “Queen of Soul” as she was known, Ms. Aretha Franklin, passed away in 2018. She was a gifted singer, songwriter, and performer who could crank out hits that had her fans bopping, singing or dancing to them decades after their release. She was an undeniable force in music.

It comes as no surprise that a Detroit Post office heard the late singer’s lyrics loud and clear in her monster hit song Respect. In honor of Franklin’s legacy, they sock’d it to her and put a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T on her name; by changing their company’s name to the “Aretha Franklin Post Office Building”, as confirmed by ABC News

U.S. Rep. Brenda Lawrence, a Michigan Democrat, longtime postal service worker and a friend of the multiple Grammy winner, successfully passed a bill that legalized the name change.

Franklin’s family came out to support their loved one and celebrate the post office’s beautiful tribute to her. Franklin loved her hometown of Detroit, so it’s beautiful to witness this gesture of love from Detroit right back to her!
