It is with a truly heavy heart that we inform you all that Kenyan long distance runner Agnes Tirop has been identified as a victim to a tragic murder that claimed her life recently!

According to CNN, the 25 year old athlete body was discovered at her home in Iten earlier this week with multiple stab wounds in her abdomen.

Reports read that Agnes dad called the police on Tuesday night to report that she was missing after becoming worried that he couldn’t reach her.

Unfortunately it has been indicated that that when officials arrived they witnessed the heartbreaking murder scene as Agnes was in bed surrounded by a pool of her own blood.

It has been indicated that Agnes husband Ibrahim Rotich caught by police days later while attempting to flee the country.

“Suspected killer husband of Agnes Tirop, the long distance runner heroine recently murdered at her home, has been arrested,” says the National Police Service-Kenya said in a statement on Twitter on Friday.

“The suspect, one Ibrahim Kipkemoi Rotich, who has been on the run with police on hot trail, was nabbed in Mombasa by diligent police detectives.”

Ibrahim was arrested on Thursday, “tried to flee a neighboring country to evade justice,” says Directorate of Criminal Investigations-Kenya on Twitter.

“Earlier in the day [Thursday] at around noon, Rotich had rammed his getaway vehicle into a lorry at Athi River, along Mombasa road, as he desperately escaped out dragnet.”

Agnes will forever be remembered as one of the best long distance runners in the game. According to TMZ, last month she set a women’s world record at a 10-kilometer race in Germany. She took home bronze medals at the World Athletic Championships in both 2017 and 2019.
