This year’s BET awards is right around the corner and though we were already excited for the night’s festivities, they’ve added the absolute cherry on top with news that a well deserved legend is set to receive her flowers!
With a career spanning over three decades Queen Latifah has not only dominated music, television and film she’s also paved the way for women within the entertainment business simply by taking a stance in a male dominated industry.
According to Hip Hop Dx the New Jersey native is being honored for her contributions to Black music and pop culture.
It’s only right seeing how this year’s showcase is dedicated to the impactful role Black Women have created within music and art.
“Black women have been essential drivers of change throughout history, from the political sphere to the cultural zeitgeist,” said BET’s Executive Vice President of Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy Connie Orlando within a forwarded statement.
“The BET Awards is the ultimate celebration of Black culture, and we are looking forward to spotlighting and celebrating Black women during this year’s show, recognizing them for everything they’ve accomplished and applauding them for what’s to come.”
Queen Latifah has created seven studio albums and sold over 2 million records within her music career. She’s noted as being the first Hip Hop artist to ever be named a lead role in a television series. Not to mention win a Grammy, Emmy, Golden Globe, including multiple NAACP Image and Screen Actors Guild Awards, and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
