Academy award winning actress Regina King is set to bring the long awaited story of political leader Shirley Chisolm to the big screen!

According to People Regina will be taking on the double role directing and also stating as the iconic congresswoman.

Sources have confirmed that Regina will also produce the film currently titled “Shirley,” alongside her sister Reina King and screenwriter John Ridley.

The film is set to depict Shirley’s journey as the first Black congresswoman in history as well as her presidential run as democratic candidate in the 70s.

Regina also recently revealed that she has been working to bring the project to life for the past 10 years.

“Shirley Chisholm’s fearless determination has been an inspiration to so many of us, and with this film we hope to inspire many generations to come. To collaborate once again with my friend and mentor, John Ridley, and the team at Participant, makes this decade-long journey even sweeter,” states Regina in an interview with Variety.
