A judge has officially ordered that former Minneapolis officer Derek Chauvin will be tried separately within the George Floyd murder case scheduled for March 2021!
According to NBC News the other three officers responsible for the role they played in Mr. Floyd’s death, Thomas Lane, J. Alexander and Tou Thao will enter trial together in August.
Sources have confirmed the prosecution team as well as Attorney General Keith Ellison is both surprised and displeased with the ruling. He has stated that all four officers should face charges within the same trial.
“We respectfully disagree with the court’s decision to sever three of the defendants from the other and its ruling on the timing of the trials,” Ellison said within a forwarded statement.
“As we argued several months ago, and as the judge agreed in his November ruling, we believe all four defendants should be tried jointly.”
It has been indicated that Chauvin is being charged with second degree murder and manslaughter. If convicted he could face up to 40 years behind bars.
