A major new law is set to go in effect in #NewYorkCity which will not only decriminalize marijuana but also

change the lives of many!

According to #VibeMagazine ; Governor Andrew Cuomo took to #Twitter to announce the new law. “Communities of color have been disproportionately impacted by laws governing marijuana for far too long, and today we are ending this injustice once and for all.”

“By providing individuals who have suffered the consequences of an unfair marijuana conviction with a path to have their records expunged and by reducing draconian penalties, we are taking a critical step forward in addressing a broken and discriminatory criminal justice process.”

Sources have indicated that the new law will allow New York State residents with low level prior marijuana convictions to have their records completely cleared. Reports from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services reads that over 14,000 people from the five boroughs including 11,000 additional people across the state qualify under the new law.

In addition, any resident caught with the possession of two ounces will be considered a violation, not a crime. If a New York resident posses anything less than an ounce they’ll be forwarded a $50 fine. A person who posses one or two ounces will be issued a $200 maximum fine.
