Hollywood’s heavy hitters #WillSmith and #Jayz are in the works of co-producing a civil rights series derived directly from the women’s side of things coming soon to ABC!
According to #EssenceMagazine the eight episode series will be entitled “Women of the movement”. Sources have indicated that the very first season will surround the story of the late Emmett Till’s mother, Mamie Till. The series was written by Marissa Jo Cerar and directly inspired by author Devery S.Anderson’s book Emmett Till: The Murder That Shocked the World and Propelled the Civil Rights Movement.
Emmett Till was murdered at the young age of 14 years old on Aug. 28,1955 upon claims of whistling at a white female Carolyn Bryant within a #Mississippi grocery store. Bryant’s husband and half brother kidnapped and gruesomely murdered Till.
Till’s death is noted as the wide sparked eruption of the civil rights movement. Mamie devoted her life to seeking justice for her son. She made sure his casket was open during the funeral for everyone to see the defects of racism within the world and the effects of it.
Though the men were acquitted of all charges by a white jury, the brothers later confessed in an interview decades later to the crime. Bryant also openly admitted in 2017 that she had lied about her interaction with Till.
