Actress KJ Smith-Black is giving Tyler Perry his flowers — not just as her boss, but as a real-life hero!

During a recent Women’s History Month conversation on BET’s ‘For The Fellas’ featuring KJ alongside Meagan Good and Pretty Vee, the Sistas star opened up about a frightening childbirth experience that nearly cost her and her daughter their lives. According to KJ, when things suddenly took a dangerous turn while attempting to undergo an at home birth, she knew exactly who to call.

“I called Tyler Perry, and I said, Tyler, of course, I wasn’t as calm as I am. I said, Something’s wrong. I need to get to a hospital right now, and I can’t wait in a waiting room. I cannot, I cannot go through the rigmarole of any of that. I need your help,” she recalled.

At the time, Perry was reportedly in the middle of the ocean, but that didn’t stop him from stepping in. KJ explained that within minutes of making the call, things started moving quickly behind the scenes.

“Tyler was in the middle of the ocean. I won’t say which ocean, but he was in the middle of the middle of the ocean. He said give Skyh the phone. I don’t know what they discussed. I don’t know what happened, but in five minutes, all of my best-friends, 25 year old friendships, and my mom and my sister and my family were loading into the suburban headed to the emergency room.”

“My water had broken, I was losing blood, and I was scared,” she shared. “Between the time I called Tyler and getting to the emergency room, it was about 30 minutes — and my child’s heart rate had dropped significantly.”

The actress revealed the situation was extremely serious and that both her life and her baby’s life were at risk. But thanks to Perry’s quick action and connections, she was able to receive immediate care.

“I won’t say the number, but I almost lost my life and my child’s life, and Tyler made the phone call so that I can go where I needed to go and live, said KJ.

For KJ, the moment reinforced what many people close to Perry already know about him, that his generosity and care go far beyond Hollywood.

“When we talk about him caring about people… that’s what we’re talking about,” she said. “I thank God for him, , and I thank God that that I thank God that he’s using him to help. Yeah, he’s changed the trajectory of my entire family.”
