The state of Georgia might finally give lemon pepper wings the recognition they deserve!
According to WSB-TV 2 the House Bill 1013, was introduced this week, proposing lemon pepper to be named the official state chicken flavor.
The bill celebrates more than just a flavor. It notes that in 1982, J.R. Crickets brought the chicken wing to Georgia, starting with Buffalo flavor. But Georgia natives turned it up a notch, turning Lemon Pepperwings into a major culture stapple.
From “lemon pepper wet” to hot honey and all flats, the bill even breaks down the many ways the city enjoys its favorite flavor.
Lemon pepper wings have even server as a contribution to Atlanta’s music scene, with meantione from Gucci Mane, Ziggy2Playa, and Rick Ross, and even in sports, with NBA star Lou Williams earning the nickname ‘Lemon Pepper Lou.’
If passed, the bill moves to the Georgia Senate, and then to Governor Brian Kemp for a signature.
From backyard cookouts to viral TikToks, lemon pepper wings are ATL’s signature stamp on the world. Noir Nation, are y’all here for it?
