Noir Nation, the U.S. Mint has announced plans to release $1 coins featuring Donald Trump as part of the upcoming 250th anniversary of the United States, and the decision is already raising eyebrows nationwide.
The announcement has drawn sharp criticism, particularly because it follows the cancellation of previous plans to honor civil rights milestones and the end of slavery through commemorative quarters.
🪙 A Controversial Shift in Focus
According to CNN, the U.S. Mint is moving away from recognizing key moments in Black American history and will instead spotlight other aspects of the nation’s past. The new direction reportedly prioritizes figures from the 18th and 19th centuries, many of whom are white men, as part of the anniversary celebration.
🗣️ Administration Response
In a statement to CNN, Treasurer Brandon Beach defended the shift, framing it as a philosophical change in priorities.
“While the Biden administration and (then-Treasury) Secretary Janet Yellen remained focused on DEI and Critical Race Theory policies, the Trump administration is dedicated to fostering prosperity and patriotism,” Beach said.
⚠️ Public Reaction Grows
Social media users have commented on proposed images of the Trump dollar coin noting how it sends a controversial message, especially at a time when many Americans are calling for more inclusivity.
