Noir Nation, check your fridge and deli trays the Food and Drug Administration has issued a major nationwide recall affecting thousands of gallons of salad dressings and sauces distributed through Publix, Costco, and other food-service outlets after potential contamination with foreign material was discovered.
According to reports from Local 3 News, from concerns over potential contamination that could pose serious health risks to consumers, prompting nationwide alerts and immediate removal of the affected items from store shelves.
According to the FDA, the manufacturer of Ventura Foods LLC says the product distributed under multiple brands may contain pieces of black plastic foreign material, traced back to granulated onion ingredients.
Among the affected items are bulky food-service sizes of Ventura Caesar Dressing, Pepper Mill Creamy and Regal Caesar, Monarch Italian Salad Dressing, Sysco Creamy Poblano Avocado Ranch Dressing & Dip, and Publix Deli’s Carolina-Style Mustard BBQ Sauce. Costco’s own Service Deli and Food Court Caesar Dressings are also included. Plus, Costco has issued its own recall of prepared foods — including its Caesar Salad and Chicken Sandwich with Caesar Salad — that used the suspect dressing and carried sell-by dates from October 17 to November 9.
Publix and Costco have begun contacting customers who may have purchased the recalled items, urging them to throw the products away or return them for a full refund. Both retailers emphasized transparency and safety, assuring shoppers that they are cooperating fully with the FDA to prevent future incidents.
Hidden Valley Ranch weighed in with a statement clarifying that none of its retail products sold in stores to consumers are part of the recall — only a one-gallon professional food-service buttermilk ranch product, never distributed to stores, was included.
The FDA has classified this as a Class II recall, meaning the products may cause temporary or medically reversible health issues if consumed, though serious harm is unlikely
Consumers who purchased any of the recalled dressings or sauces are urged not to eat them and to either discard them immediately or return them to the point of purchase for a full refund. Retailers like Costco are assisting customers with the refund process.
