It’s been three years since Charlotte native Shanquella Robinson tragically lost her life while vacationing in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico with friends.
For the three year anniversary , of Shanquella’s horrific death— her family alongside their attorneys are still fighting for justice in hopes that U.S. authorities take action and release more information about the case.
📍 The Tragic Night
On October 29, 2022, 25-year-old Shanquella was at a vacation rental with friends when her life was cut short. While initial reports claimed she died from alcohol poisoning, the truth told a far darker story.
A Mexican autopsy revealed that Shanquella suffered a severe neck injury and spinal trauma — injuries inconsistent with alcohol-related death. Shanquella’s final moments, captured in a disturbing video, showed her being assaulted by the group now dubbed the “Cabo Six.”
⚖️ The Fight for Accountability
Shanquella’s family, alongside attorneys including Ben Crump, continue to fight for answers. They have filed a lawsuit against the Cabo Six, as well as the U.S. State Department and the FBI, citing negligence, conspiracy, and emotional distress.
The family is urging U.S. authorities to release more information about the investigation, frustrated by the slow progress and lack of transparency.
“We’re still waiting for action. This anniversary isn’t just a date—it’s a reminder that justice has yet to be served,” Salamondra added.
⚖️ Lawsuits Filed Against the Cabo Six
In October 2024, the Robinson family filed a wrongful‑death lawsuit in North Carolina against the Cabo Six — the six individuals who were with Shanquella in Mexico. The complaint also names the FBI and the U.S. State Department as defendants.
Key claims included in the lawsuit:
Battery – The suit alleges one companion punched Shanquella in the face, head, neck, and other parts of her body during the fatal assault. Civil conspiracy / Wrongful death – The family alleges that the companions conspired to lie about what happened, failed to call proper medical help, and misrepresented Shanquella’s condition. Negligence / Intentional infliction of emotional distress – The lawsuit holds both the friends and U.S. agencies accountable for failing to protect Shanquella or properly investigate the case. The complaint seeks damages “in excess of $25,000” from each defendant, with some reports indicating significantly higher amounts are sought.
The complaint also alleges that the Cabo Six refused to take Shanquella to a hospital despite visible injuries, instead remaining at the vacation villa.
🔍 Why This Case Matters
Shanquella’s death is more than a vacation tragedy — it’s a wake-up call:
Black women’s safety abroad must be taken seriously. U.S. agencies need better coordination with international authorities when Americans are in danger overseas. Families deserve transparency and timely action, not blame-shifting and delays.
“This isn’t just about one family’s pain. It’s about ensuring no other young Black woman faces the same fate while traveling,” an advocate shared.
🕊️ Remembering Shanquella
Family and friends remember Shanquella as a bright, ambitious young woman — a daughter, friend, and entrepreneur whose life ended too soon.
While justice has yet to be fully served, her story continues to resonate with communities demanding accountability, safety, and respect for Black lives everywhere.
Noir Nation stands with her family. We honor Shanquella not just by remembering her, but by demanding the justice she deserves.
