Noir Nation, this one is heavy!

In a devastating turn of events, Alexus Lee and John “JR” Collins, a young engaged couple from Baton Rouge, lost their lives in two separate car accidents occurring just hours apart on the same stretch of Plank Road.

According to WAFB, the tragedy unfolded overnight last Friday. Alexus, a recent Southern University graduate and teacher at East Feliciana STEAM Academy, lost control of her SUV near Lemon Road in Zachary, resulting in a fatal crash.

“Losing Lexus just different. It was a different feeling, and it’s like I know a part of me gone,” said Alexus’s sister Dominque Lee.

Upon receiving the devastating news, JR, a truck driver known for his love of sports cars, rushed to the scene. Tragically, he too lost control of his vehicle near Clinton, crashing into a tree and succumbing to his injuries. Authorities reported that neither was wearing a seatbelt at the time of their respective accidents.

“I love them and I’m gonna miss both of them and I’m gonna find the strength to go ahead,” said JR’s father, Arthur Collins.

🧸 A Young Life Changed Forever

Sadly, the couple leaves behind their 4-year-old son, Gabriel.

Their son, Gabriel, now faces life without his parents. Family members have expressed their commitment to providing him with a loving and supportive environment.

“He understands what happened, and he’s just having a little problem comprehending that we can’t talk to them. We can’t see them, but he understands that they are asleep and are with God,” said Sandra Collins.

“Even though they left a child behind, we have a great support system. The two families will blend, and we will do whatever it takes to give him a good life.”

🕊️ Honoring Their Memory

A joint celebration of life for Alexus and JR was held on Wednesday, May 21, at East Feliciana STEAM Academy in Clinton, Louisiana. The couple had recently purchased a new home and were planning to marry in February 2026.

Their love story, though tragically cut short, lives on through their son and the memories cherished by their families and community.
