During a recent press conference NFL all-star DK Metcalf dropped details on how he popped the question to Normani!
While announcing his highly anticipated trade from the Seattle Seahawks to the Pittsburgh Steelers Thursday (March 13th) on Instagram, DeKaylin ‘DK’ Metcalf shared with fans that he and Normani were officially engaged.
DK revealed to News reporters that his initial proposal had been in the works since 2024 but due to conflicts in scheduling for them both he had to hold off.
“My family and her family was in Houston. It was my sister’s spring break and just thought about getting the whole family together for a big kumbaya and joining our families with the ring,” DK explained.
“But she’s a singer and, you know, her work kind of conflict with the schedule,” he said, adding he wanted to “take an approach to where a schedule couldn’t matter.” with a smile across his face as he told Normani to show her ring.
Ultimately he asked for Normani’s hand in marriage earlier while in Houston, Texas surrounded by both of their families.
“I started sending her flowers with a story and then the last letter on the flower was ‘Will you marry?’ And she said yes.”
With a smile across his face he told Normani to show her ring, “Hold that rock up baby.”
DK also revealed that former Seattle Seahwak Russell Wilson and Ciara introduced him to Normani.
“We hit it off from day one and here we are.”
Normani shared in an interview with Vogue magazine that she had no clue about DK’s surprise proposal. She recalled thinking that their trip to Houston was the perfect idea for both of their families to spend time with one another and that DK told her had planned a surprise dinner for his sister. “I was just thinking, ‘Okay, cool. This is a great opportunity for our families to get together, enjoy each other, and spend quality time together.’”
“My whole family’s there, his whole family’s there, and this is how clueless I was: I run and I hide, as if I’m about to be in on the surprise for his sister—thinking she’s behind us and that we’re all going to say, ‘Surprise!’”
Normani adds, “Honestly, I was so overwhelmed, I can’t even remember what was said. I just said ‘Yes, yes, yes, of course.’ The ring was beautiful. My baby did amazing. It was so beautiful and special, and he went above and beyond.”
