Noir Nation; authorities have confirmed that they have now switched previously issued search efforts into a recovery operation following a tragic midair collision between an American Airlines jet and a US Army Black Hawk helicopter!
According to reports from CNN, officials believe there are no surviving passengers. Sources state that the American Airlines jet traveling in the Washington D.C area Wednesday night is said to have been occupied with 64 passengers. The US Army Black Hawk helicopter is said to have carried three soldiers nearing Regan National Airport.
“American Airlines Flight 5342 was due to land at the Reagan National airport Wednesday night when the aircraft – a Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet – collided midair with the Army helicopter as the plane approached Runway 33,” reads reports from the Federal Aviation Administration and defense officials.
US Figure Skating confirmed in an issued statement that several members of the figure skating community were also onboard including two world champion Russian figure skaters.
DC Fire and EMS Chief John Donnelly says that a total of 27 bodies have been recovered from the passenger jet at this time. He also confirms that there has been one body recovered from the military helicopter.
“I’m confident that we will do that, and that will take us a little bit of time, though. It may involve some more equipment,” Donnelly explained.
While addressing the nation, Donald Trump confirmed once more that there were no survivors.
“This was a dark and excruciating night in our nation’s capital and in our nation’s history, and a tragedy of terrible proportions,” Trump said. “As one nation, we grieve for every precious soul that has been taken from us so suddenly.”
We send infinite prayers to all victims and their families 🙏🏾
