As Donald Trump is less than a month away from taking office, a New York state judge has declared that not even the presidency can stop him from answering to his hush money conviction!

According to NPR, Judge Juan Merchan has ruled that Trump cannot claim presidential immunity to turn over his felony conviction. Judge Merchan has rejected Trump’s attorneys’ notions to have his conviction dismissed as they argue he’s been elected president.

As previously reported Trump was found guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records to cover up a hush money payment of $130,000 to adult film star Stormy Daniels. It has been stated that the payment was made to help influence his initial run for president back in 2016.

Within a 41-page decision, Judge Merchan focused on the question of presidential immunity. He declared that the Supreme Court’s ruling that Trump should have immunity for his official acts during his time in office shouldn’t mean his conviction should be dismissed.

Judge Merchan confirms that evidence provided on behalf of the Manhattan district attorney’s office was not related to his time in office, reports CNN.
