The price of groceries weighed as an important factor in this year’s election with both the Democrat and Republican Party acknowledging difficulties Americans are facing with the basic costs of food. President-elect #DonaldTrump who has once advocated for lowering the cost of groceries, is currently reflecting on his previous statements while noting the task at hand may be a difficult one!
In an interview with Time Magazine where he secured 2024’s ‘Person of The Year, Trump was asked about the lowering of food costs and does he thinks it’ll negatively impact his administration if he doesn’t keep his promises. He responded no while insisting that the Biden administration is the cause based on how they handled inflation.
“Look, they got them up. I’d like to bring them down. It’s hard to bring things down once they’re up. You know, it’s very hard,” said Trump.
“But I think that they will. I think that energy is going to bring them down. I think a better supply chain is going to bring them down. You know, the supply chain is still broken. It’s broken.”
According to ABC News, Trump stated in a previous interview with NBC the he won the election because of his proposal on immigration and the economy.
“I won on the border, and I won on groceries,” he told NBC’s Kristen Welker. “Very simple word, groceries. Like almost — you know, who uses the word? I started using the word — the groceries. When you buy apples, when you buy bacon, when you buy eggs, they would double and triple the price over a short period of time, and I won an election based on that. We’re going to bring those prices way down.”
