Apparently, Diddy’s legal troubles aren’t the only thing piling up as the mogul continues to rack up music streams following his arrest in New York City!
Luminate reports that the Bad Boy CEO’s music catalog experienced an 18.3% increase in on-demand streams compared to the week prior to his unsealed federal indictment.
Diddy’s current legal troubles initially began in November of 2023 following a hefty lawsuit issued on behalf of his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura. The suit forwarded claims of abuse, sexual assault, manipulation, sex trafficking, and more.
As more details regarding the couple’s tumultuous relationship continued to trend online, social media users responded with the orchestration of a #MuteDiddy campaign. The campaign was made in efforts to silence Diddy’s extensive thirty-plus-year catalog of music ranging from the radio to music streams.
“Music just becomes another piece of information as people try to comprehend the atrocities,” says distinguished professor of music business management at Berklee College of Music George Howard to the Associated Press.
“It’s like, ‘What would someone whose brain works like that, allegedly, what would their music sound like?’”
He added, “The natural curiosity that these types of charges evoke makes sense,” Howard said. “It’s like driving by a car crash. People want to look.”
